- Analyze and interpret the assigned readings for one of the following themes we have explored in the second half of the semester: Gender and Sexuality, Language and Culture, or Religion. Make sure that you identify and briefly review the concepts.
- What have you learned comparatively about two of the following themes in “The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down”: gender, language and culture, religion, and healing? What does this book teach us about cultural diversity in the United States. Be sure to do justice both to Hmong and US medical perspectives without feeling the need to judge. Be sure to relate these back to course concepts. In particular, I’d like you to focus on specific cultural perspectives of the Lee’s and other Hmong residents of Merced, Hmong shamans (tvix neeb), and the medical professional who treat Lia Lee.
