Description
FIRST PART: Write a 4000-4500 words final paper (excluding references, notes, and headers) that builds on you historical analysis and your methodology papers. Apply rhetorical theories to the analysis of your movement’s chosen text focusing on the persuasive tactics used by the movement. Make sure to include a discussion of how your chosen movement appeals to notions of justice and civic engagement.
The paper should follow this rough outline:
I. Introduction (including justification) – this part I will attach it just needs some changes (make sure you narrow your scope a bit, either by focusing on a specific initiative or by limiting the study in terms of time period and geography. <— this was a feedback from my professor for this part, so try to change what she says).
II. Historical Background (use an edited version of your historical paper here) – this part I will again attach, professor said this part was good, just make a minor changes so the paper would stick together and would look as one whole paper, not as many papers in one, the correct continuity is important.
III. Methodology (use an edited version of your methodology paper here) —> this part I will again attach, but it needs some changes, there are speeches that should be analyzed in the next part and tactics that we would use for analyzing which is in this case polarization and identification. I would add one more tactic here (I will include PowerPoint where the strategies and tactics are for the analyzing). Also I would add tactic for analyzing herewhich is argument from quality (for example greater good -> I will add screenshot) where one side is for banning guns (in this case it would be the social movement MArch for Our Lives) and the other side against, where March For Our Lives movement wants to ban guns for greater good. Or we can add here tactic for analyzing argument from quantity (I will add screenshot) which is where we find evidence and based on that we will analyze in the next part of the paper. (THIS PART IS NOT FOR ANALYZING!!)
IV. Analysis (apply the methodology to your chosen text/artifact — this section should be about 2/3 of your paper or about 2750-3000 words) – here we analyze, by using the strategies and tactics that we chose in the part above.
V. Conclusion (include a discussion of notions of justice and civic engagement)
SECOND PART:
The presentation and outline for the presentation
Present you analysis paper to the class in a formal oral presentation. This is NOT a traditional Power Point presentation. You should have no written words on your slides. You are welcome to use a few (1-5) slides with images ONLY, if such images help you illustrate your analysis. Write what should be presented for each slide in speaker notes.
Prepare an 8 minute presentation that summarizes the most important aspects of your findings and be prepared to answer questions about your research. Time limits will be strictly enforced.
